NomiLab Collaborative is a small, woman-owned architecture studio with deep experience in affordable housing and mission-driven design. We bring that same research-informed, people-centered approach to every project we take on, from adaptive reuse to private homes. We believe good design should serve the people who live in a place, and that's the standard we hold every project to.
About Us
NomiLab Collaborative was founded on a simple belief: design matters. We design environments that support human health, belonging, and community, guided by research and shaped by the people who will live and work in them.
We're curious by nature and makers at heart. Most of all, we pay attention to how it feels to be in a space. How light moves through a room, how a place puts you at ease or makes you want to stay, how it holds the everyday life that happens inside it. Craft and materials matter to us, but they're in service of that experience rather than the point of it.
That attention is grounded in a growing body of research in neuroscience, trauma-informed design, and cognitive psychology. We invest in it not as a credential, but because it makes the work better, whether we're designing a family home or a space meant to serve a whole community.
And the best ideas tend to come out of working closely with other people: our clients, consultants, contractors, and the communities we build in.
Our Work
We design spaces where people feel they belong. That holds true across every kind of project we take on. These are the areas where we do our best work:
Residential Design Homes, ADUs, and artist studios(+) designed around how people actually live. We do our best work within real constraints, whether that's budget, zoning, or square footage.
Adaptive Reuse and Tenant Improvement We help people and organizations reimagine existing buildings into spaces that fit how they live and work. We are at our best working with what is already there, and there is usually more worth keeping than people expect.
Educational Spaces From early childhood through higher education, we design environments that support learning inside the classroom and beyond it. We look for places where a single design decision can do more than one job.
Behavioral Health and Mission Driven Projects Research-informed, occupant-centered design shaped around the specific needs of each client. We stay nimble when budgets are tight, timelines are short, and the needs are high.
Affordable and Commercial Housing Thoughtful, community-centered housing, with a focus on affordable, permanent supportive, and missing middle projects. We design with dignity, and we are comfortable in the complexity these projects carry.
